Southern Gauteng, the only unbeaten A Section team, beat Western Province 3-0 in the last of their round-robin matches at the ABJ Friday to win IPT by one point over KZN Midlands followed by third-placed KZN Coastals.

This was South Gauteng's second successive IPT trophy after they won in Port Elizabeth last year.

Midlands accounted for Free State 4-1 Friday while Coastals beat relegated Boland 5-1. Northern Gauteng, unbeaten in the B Section, earned their promotion to next year's A Section with another crushing win.

WP made Southerns work hard for their victory as the score at the turnaround was 0-0 – a draw would have given Midlands a chance at winning IPT provided they beat Free State later. But in the second half strong finishers Southerns banged in three goals through Dean Symmons (2) and Mark Le Seur.

The SA U18 team was named at the conclusion of IPT and they will play Australia in a four-Test series at Maritzburg College's Pape's Astro from August 9 to 15.

This IPT was again superbly organised by Michaelhouse's Keith Fairweather and his local organising committee, while Maritzburg College was the perfect venue to house the teams.
